First Friday Lunch - February 1st, 2013
Join us for First Fridays, a monthly recurring event for undergraduate and graduate Princeton alumni, graduate students, and parents. On the first Friday of each month, area alumni and their guests meet to enjoy a prix fixe luncheon buffet at the Nassau Club in downtown Princeton. As a special bonus for PA3, a Princeton PhD candidate presents his/her work to the group in this informal setting. Topics vary monthly and are always interesting!
This month, we will be joined by Australian composer Kate Neal, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Music. As a composer and arranger, she has worked across such artistic disciplines as dance, feature film, animation, theater and concert music. Kate is the recipient of various awards and fellowships, receiving scholarships from a broad array of countries, colleges and more. Examples of her work can be found at www.kateneal.com. Don't miss this exciting event!
Specially priced at $25/person (or $30 if you choose not to pay PA3's annual dues), lunch includes the Nassau Club’s full buffet as well as a complementary beverage (wine, beer, soft drink). Pre-registration is required.

First Friday Lunch with Nadezhda Savova, PhD in Anthropology
On Friday, January 11th, 2013, PA3 welcomed Nadezhda Savova to the monthly First Friday luncheon at the Nassau Club. Nadezhda recently received her PhD in the Department of Anthropology.

National Geographic 'Traveler of the Year' Nadezhda Savova with loaves of bread decorated with traditional Bulgarian patterns.
Nadezhda told the group about The Bread Houses Network, which she initiated while was conducting her PhD research in the Department of
Anthropology at Princeton. While studying the social role of community
cultural centers networks in Brazil, Cuba, and Bulgaria, Nadezhda started to connect these
networks and help them develop exchanges and projects. In 2008 while working for
UNESCO’s Culture Sector in Paris she founded the International Council for Cultural
Centers (I3C), www.international3c.org, which is a global network of community cultural
centers, already connecting 56 national networks with thousands of centers, scattered from
rich urban places to some of the most marginalized neighborhoods of the world, proving that
art is and should be for everyone.
We look forward to hearing about Nadezhda's continued successes as she further develops the network.

Cold weather got you down? We've got the cure. Finally, another PA5 (Princeton Area Alumni Association Automobile Aficionados) movie night.

Feature Film: Senna
Movie Description (blatently pirated from Amazon.com): Fans of car racing, especially the elite Formula One format, will get a rush from the excellent documentary Senna, a profile of the rock star-handsome Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna. But Senna is a film that all audiences can enjoy--because of its big heart and its engaging portrayal of its star. And the riveting footage of Senna's Formula One races, and his knife-edge daring behind the wheel, don't hurt either. Ayrton Senna grew up in Brazil, where he began his love affair with driving as a competitive go-kart racer at the age of 13. Senna follows young Ayrton's journey into full-fledged racing, and allows Senna's gentle personality to shine through as he begins to make his name in racing circles. The viewer learns that Senna loved the Catholic Church almost as much as he loved racing, and his humility and his ongoing love for his fellow Brazilians, especially those in poverty, would be themes that lasted throughout his life. Senna would go on to become one of Formula One's best and most accomplished competitors ever--and his steely nerves and willingness to take risks on the track paid off in Grand Prix after Grand Prix. Senna, deftly directed by Asif Kapadia (Far North, The Warrior), lets the singular personality and charisma of Senna--and the spectacular theatrics of F-1 racing--tell his story without any forced drama or fanfare. Rod McNealy `72, Principal of McNealy Advanced Communications (MAC), has collaborated with the Office of Career Services to offer an Introduction to Marketing workshop ideal for those considering a future marketing career, who plan to interact with a marketing organization, or who would like to develop skills and competencies in this area.
